Morehead State preview and CBB/CUSA notes from Sunday/Monday

Morehead State preview

The Morehead State Eagles are coming to RGC and Hattiesburg on Wednesday. They're 7-3 and two of their 3 losses came to #18 UCLA and Xavier (both on the road). The other loss came to Gardner-Webb at a neutral site in OT. None of their wins are that great (so far, a win at a below-average Nevada squad is Morehead's best win of 2013). MSU (Morehead State University NOT Mississippi State University) is coming off a 5 point win against Wright State at home in a game that was played on Monday. Obviously, the major storyline of this game is Donnie Tyndall coaching against his alma mater. Last year, USM beat MSU 94-58 on the road in Tyndall's return to Morehead, KY. Sean Woods is the coach of Morehead State and was actually a candidate for the USM coaching job when it opened up in 2012. MSU will present a challenge to USM on defense (they like to push the tempo and have averaged 78 points through their first 10 games) but I think we will be able to rebound after the Louisville disappointment and get the W.

Prediction: Southern Miss 76, Morehead State 65

CBB/CUSA notes from Sunday/Monday

UAB got the biggest win for C-USA in OOC play (as of now) with a win over UNC on Sunday in Birmingham. The Tar Heels do have some key players out right now but still a great win for the Blazers.

Charlotte got an easy win over UNC-Asheville and Louisiana Tech went on the road and got a win over Jackson State.

ECU lost to UNC-Wilmington by 2 at home. That kind of surprised me.

(No games on Monday in C-USA)

Tonight's marquee C-USA game is Belmont @ Middle Tennessee. Blue Raiders have a chance at getting a solid OOC win.

Other notable C-USA games tonight: North Texas @ BYU and UCF @ FAU
